Hank the Horse, Danville Independent’s Read Across America Event, Inspires Students to “Read Across the Stars”
Some 200 parents and children joined “Hank the Horse” and Danville Independent Education Association member-volunteers at this year’s “Read Across the Stars” Read Across America (RAA) event at the Boyle County Public Library. Danville Independent was awarded a $500 RAA grant from KEA to hold the community event.
Kids of all ages were invited to wear their pajamas and pick their favorite breakfast cereal to snack on during the event and meet Hank the Horse. Each child also received a goody bag with a flashlight and a reading buddy stuffed animal to take home. KEA Central District Board Member Norma Hopkins read aloud from the soon-to-be published book “Be Like Hank” to the children in attendance.
This was the first time Danville Education Association had teamed up with the public library for its event in order to focus attention on the important resource the library brings to the community and its students. Congratulations on a great event to all of those in Danville Independent schools and thanks to all those who volunteered their time and effort reaching out to students about the importance of Read Across America!
