What we used to refer to as as melting pot is now more like vegetable soup. A mixture of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual identity, and countless other backgrounds or beliefs, comprises many schools. Some districts are more homogeneous while others are extremely diverse. What every educator needs to appreciate is how the school and classroom can be operated to support individuality. In order for learning to take place, faculty and students need to feel safe by learning to accept and celebrate differences.
