Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading.
Although March 2 is officially designated as “Read Across America Day,” Read Across America events can anytime throughout the year. Motivating children to read is an important factor in student achievement and creating lifelong successful readers.
Each year, KEA award grants up to $500 to support Read Across America events sponsored by KEA districts or locals. In addition to the primary purpose of promoting child literacy, KEA will judge grant requests based on the following criteria: the degree to which the activity includes participation by multiple categories of KEA membership and encourages cooperation among Active, Retired, and Aspiring Educator members; developing strong KEA locals; the number of children expected to participate; the level of publicity and community outreach expected; and other criteria that may be established by KEA’s Read Across America review committee.
This is a wonderful opportunity to involve all stakeholders–teachers, students, parents, and the community—in the vital work of promoting the value and fulfillment of literacy. The application for 2022-23 Read Across America grants is now open and will close on September 15, 2022. Please use the official online form to submit your application.
