Contest Theme:
Students are to create their original written essay or artwork remembering the theme “I love my public school because…”

WRITTEN ESSAY CONTEST
Essay Contest Eligibility:
Students in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, grades K through 12, are invited to create an original essay stemming from the introduction statement: “I love my public school because…” 
All students in a public school in Kentucky are eligible to enter. 

Written Essay Contest Rules and Guidelines:
•    Essays must be original and between 500-750 words and be typed.
•    Secondary students (6th-12th grade) must cite any non-original sources they use in their work in either APA or MLA style.
•    All entries must be submitted electronically.  All entries must be in a format that is capable of being opening in Microsoft Word, typically a .doc or docx file.
•    All entries must include a contest entry form

VISUAL ART CONTEST
Visual Art Contest Eligibility:
Students in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Preschool through 12th Grade, are invited to create an original artwork that embodies the statement “I love my public school because…” 

All students in a public school in Kentucky are eligible to enter. 

Visual Art Contest Rules and Guidelines:

•    All entries must be the original artwork of the student.
•    All pieces must be two-dimensional (2-D).
•    Entries should be no smaller than 8” X 10” nor larger than 16” X 20”. 
•    All entries must include a contest entry form 
•    All entries must include theme title in their designs “I love my public school because…”

General Information
Schools will submit all essays and art to their local KEA office.  Locals are responsible for choosing 3 essays and/or 3 art pieces as local winners.  Submissions will be displayed in Frankfort between the Capitol Building and the annex the week of March 13, 2017. Contest submission deadline is the close of business on Friday, January 13, 2017.
